Grams to cups chart
Common weights in US cups, rounded to the nearest measuring-cup fraction. Cups = grams ÷ the ingredient's grams per cup.

How to convert grams to cups
Divide the weight in grams by the ingredient's grams-per-cup figure. 250 g of all-purpose flour divided by 125 g per cup is 2 cups. The only hard part is knowing the density, which is what the tables on this site are for.
There is no single universal ratio, because a cup measures space and a gram measures matter. A cup of almond flour holds 96 g; the same cup holds 340 g of honey.
What one cup weighs
| Ingredient | 1 cup | ½ cup | ¼ cup |

| Cake flour | 120 g | 60 g | 30 g |
| All-purpose flour | 125 g | 63 g | 31 g |
| Bread flour | 130 g | 65 g | 33 g |
| Powdered sugar | 120 g | 60 g | 30 g |
| Granulated sugar | 200 g | 100 g | 50 g |
| Brown sugar (packed) | 220 g | 110 g | 55 g |
| Butter | 227 g | 113 g | 57 g |
| Water | 237 g | 118 g | 59 g |
| Honey | 340 g | 170 g | 85 g |
Why weighing beats measuring
A cup of flour is not a fixed amount. Spooned in lightly and levelled it is about 125 g; scooped straight from the bag it can be 150 g. That 20% swing in the ingredient that gives a cake its structure is why the same recipe works for one person and not another.
- Spoon flour into the cup and level it — never scoop from the bag.
- Pack brown sugar firmly unless the recipe says otherwise.
- Read liquid jugs at eye level, on a flat surface.
- Oil the cup before measuring honey or nut butter.
- For anything under a quarter cup, use spoons.
Frequently asked questions
How many cups is 25 grams?
It depends on the ingredient: 25 g is ¼ cup of all-purpose flour, ⅛ cup of granulated sugar and ⅛ cup of butter. Amounts this small are easier with spoons — 25 g of flour is about 3¼ tablespoons.
How many cups is 113 grams?
113 g of butter is ½ cup — one US stick. The same 113 g is ⅞ cup of all-purpose flour and 0.56 cup of granulated sugar.
How many cups is 250 grams?
250 g is 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1¼ cups of granulated sugar, 1⅛ cups of butter and 1 cup of whole milk.
How many cups is 100 grams of flour?
¾ cup of all-purpose flour, based on 125 g per cup measured spooned and levelled. Almond flour is lighter at 96 g per cup, so 100 g of it is just over a full cup.
Is the grams to cups conversion the same for every ingredient?
No, and this is the whole reason a converter like this exists. A cup of sugar weighs 200 g while a cup of flour weighs 125 g. Grams measure weight and cups measure volume, so the answer changes with the ingredient's density.
How many cups is 200 grams of sugar?
1 cup of white granulated sugar, at 200 g per cup. Packed brown sugar is denser at 220 g per cup, so 200 g of it is a little under a cup.
How do I convert cups to grams?
Multiply the number of cups by the ingredient's grams-per-cup value. Two cups of flour is 2 × 125 = 250 g. The converter's swap button does it instantly for any ingredient here.
Why do recipes use grams instead of cups?
Because grams are reproducible. A cup of flour can hold anywhere from 120 g to 150 g depending on how it was filled, so two people following the same recipe get different results. A gram is a gram.
