European butter is sold differently
European butter comes in blocks, usually 250 g, rather than wrapped sticks. A 250 g block is a little more than two US sticks — 2.2 sticks, or about 1.1 cups.
The wrapper is the most accurate measuring device you have. Most US butter wrappers are printed with tablespoon markings, and cutting on the line beats guessing with a cup.
