Coconut Oil (solid): Grams to Cups
1 cup of coconut oil (solid) = 226 grams
One US cup of coconut oil (solid) weighs 226 grams. One 250 ml metric cup — the one used in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada — holds 239 grams. To convert any weight, divide the grams by the figure for your cup.
Solid coconut oil weighs about 226 g per cup (King Arthur Baking: 113 g per ½ cup). Below about 24°C it is solid; measure it soft, pressed into the cup, or melt a weighed amount.
Solid, soft or melted
Coconut oil melts at about 24°C (76°F), so the same jar can be a hard white block in winter and a clear liquid in summer. Its weight does not change when it melts, but a cup of it does: solid oil scooped into a cup leaves air gaps unless it is pressed down, and melted oil fills the cup completely. King Arthur Baking gives 113 g per ½ cup, 226 g per cup, for the oil measured solid. This site lists melted coconut oil separately at 218 g per cup.
If a recipe says "½ cup coconut oil, melted", measure the oil first (solid, pressed into the cup) and then melt it. If it says "½ cup melted coconut oil", melt it first and then measure. By weight the question disappears: 113 g is 113 g either way.
Measuring it without a mess
Soften solid oil for a few seconds in the microwave or scrape it with a sturdy spoon, press it firmly into a dry measuring cup to push out the air and level it. For common amounts at 226 g per cup: 50 g is about 3½ tablespoons, 100 g is about 0.44 cups (a scant ½ cup), 200 g is about 0.88 cups and 250 g is about 1.1 cups.
Coconut oil swaps for butter one for one by weight in most cookies and quick breads, though butter is about 80% fat and coconut oil is all fat, so the result is a little more tender and spreads a bit more.

How to measure coconut oil (solid) accurately
The 226 g figure assumes the spooned-and-levelled method: spoon the coconut oil (solid) into a dry measuring cup and sweep the top flat with a straight edge. Scooping the cup through the bag compacts it and gives a heavier cup.
