Grams to Milliliters Converter
Density-based g to mL for liquids and ingredients
Grams measure weight and millilitres measure volume, so the conversion needs the ingredient's density. Water is the exception where the two line up: 1 ml of water weighs 1 g.
Density of common liquids
| Ingredient | Grams per ml | 100 ml weighs | 100 g measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water | 1.00 | 100 g | 100 ml |
| Milk (whole) | 1.03 | 103 g | 97 ml |
| Heavy Cream | 1.01 | 101 g | 99 ml |
| Vegetable Oil | 0.92 | 92 g | 109 ml |
| Olive Oil | 0.91 | 91 g | 110 ml |
| Honey | 1.44 | 144 g | 70 ml |
| Maple Syrup | 1.33 | 133 g | 75 ml |
| Molasses | 1.42 | 142 g | 70 ml |
Litres work the same way
A litre is 1000 millilitres, so every figure above multiplies by ten. One litre of water is 1000 g; one litre of oil is about 920 g; one litre of honey is about 1437 g.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1 ml the same as 1 gram?
Only for water and liquids close to it in density. Oil is lighter and honey is much heavier.
How many ml is 100 grams of water?
100 ml. Water is the one ingredient where grams and millilitres match.
How many grams is 250 ml of milk?
About 258 g. Milk is slightly denser than water.
